An indoor jacuzzi and one sitting on the terrace demand entirely different engineering, even if they're the same product.
The main difference is whether you can control the environment the hot tub will be in.
You have control over temperature, humidity and airflow indoors. However, it is your responsibility to manage the steam and humidity produced by the hot tub. Outdoors, moisture dissipates spontaneously, but this time natural conditions, namely rain, sun, cold and freezing, come into play.
This distinction affects every decision. While it is a priority to prevent the room from being damaged by moisture indoors, it is a priority for the jacuzzi and its installation to withstand weather conditions outdoors. The same hot tub requires different insulation, different ventilation and different infrastructure in the two scenarios. The right solution starts by centering the location, not the product.
The biggest engineering issue in installing an indoor hot tub is moisture management.
Working in a closed volume, the jacuzzi constantly produces steam. If this moisture is not managed, mold on the walls, stains on the ceiling, and deterioration in furniture and wood are inevitable. Therefore, the main job in the indoor jacuzzi is the layout of the room where it is located, as well as the jacuzzi itself.
Done properly, the room's ventilation is sized for the humidity the jacuzzi produces; surfaces are moisture-resistant and waterproofing goes wherever it is needed. A drain is foreseen on the floor to direct overflowing or splashing water. We treat an indoor jacuzzi as a small wet room. That way the room is protected from humidity and splashing water.
A jacuzzi standing on the terrace or in the garden is in touch with nature in all four seasons and is engineered accordingly.
The most critical issue is freezing: in cold regions, jacuzzi water and plumbing must be protected against freezing, otherwise pipes and equipment may be seriously damaged. That's why frost protection and winter scenarios in outdoor jacuzzis are planned from the beginning.
In addition, sun, rain and outside air. It requires that the coating, cover and installation be selected from durable materials. In order to prevent water contamination, a coverable solution, proper drainage of the surrounding ground and protection of the electrical installation in accordance with external conditions are important. Since you can't control the environment outdoors, we equip the hot tub to withstand the environment.
The weight of the hot tub is important in every location, but the location determines the criticality of this calculation.
Solid ground on the ground floor or in the garden usually carries the load easily, but terraces, balconies and upper floors always need a structural assessment. The total weight of a hot tub filled with water is high and not every structure can bear this load.
Infrastructure also differs depending on location. While it is generally easier to connect water, electricity and drain lines to the existing installation indoors, outdoors these lines must be carried out of the building and protected against external conditions. The right approach is to evaluate what the location offers, both in terms of load and infrastructure, before choosing a hot tub. We discussed these topics and the service gap in more detail in our Jacuzzi Selection Guide article.
A garden jacuzzi sits on a concrete slab poured on the ground, while a terrace jacuzzi is installed according to the load capacity of the existing deck; the distinction lies in the ground, not the product.
In the garden, excavation, drainage and electrical routing are the largest cost items; on a terrace, structural assessment and waterproofing take priority. Garden jacuzzi prices are driven less by shell size than by these infrastructure items: the same 5-person spa costs differently on a ready-made terrace floor versus a garden that requires excavation.
A common rule for both garden and terrace jacuzzis is wind and view orientation: with the cover open, surface heat loss multiplies in the wind, so the spa should be placed, where possible, in a corner sheltered by a wall or a planting screen. An oval jacuzzi takes up less space but seats fewer people; a square shell gives one extra seat at the same size. For terrace jacuzzi selection, a structural report should be required as a rule for filled weights exceeding 2,000 kg.
The right decision starts with weighing the indoor option against the outdoor one.
Do you want a sheltered tub you can use all year round, or a soak in the open air with a view of the garden? This choice determines the framework for all subsequent engineering decisions. Built correctly, either option runs without trouble for years; built wrongly, it keeps causing problems.
Our advice is to choose not on the product alone, but on how you live and what your home allows. Together we choose the jacuzzi solution that suits your location and design it around how you will use it today and how it will be maintained later. +90 216 475 39 37If it will not be used in winter, precautions against freezing are critical. The water and the installation must be protected from freezing and the cover must be kept closed and insulated. Scenarios such as evacuating the installation in cold regions or keeping it in permanent protection mode are planned from the beginning. It is best to determine this winter scenario together before installing the jacuzzi.

Since an indoor jacuzzi constantly produces steam, the room's ventilation must be designed to handle this humidity. Insufficient ventilation means mold on the walls and stains on the ceiling. Selecting moisture-resistant surfaces and waterproofing at necessary points complete this. Treating the room like a small wet area is key to striking this balance.

The same jacuzzi requires different insulation, ventilation and infrastructure in the two scenarios. It is therefore important to choose the coating and installation appropriately for the location. While the outdoor area requires components resistant to sun, rain and freezing, the indoor area prioritizes moisture management. Therefore, the choice should be made not on the product, but on the location of the jacuzzi.

In the case of a terrace, balcony or upper floor, a static evaluation must be made for the total weight of the water-filled jacuzzi. Not every structure can carry this load. The bearing capacity of the floor and the location of the carrier axles are examined together. The jacuzzi is positioned safely with solutions such as a platform that distributes the load when necessary.

A retractable lid when not in use significantly reduces leaves, dust and pollution falling into the water. Correct drainage of the surrounding ground also reduces pollution. Regular filtration and water balance complete this. When these measures are combined, the water of the outdoor jacuzzi stays clean and healthy for longer.

Both require regular maintenance, but the type of care varies. Indoors, humidity management of the room comes to the fore, while outdoors, care for weather conditions and winter scenarios gains emphasis. Which one will be easier depends on the conditions of your space and how you use it. Together, we determine the appropriate solution for your location, taking into account ease of maintenance.
