Chlorine products differ in active ingredient, concentration and intended use. Shape alone does not determine strength or dosing method.
Tablet and granular describe the physical form of a product; on their own they do not tell you its chemical composition.
On the market, tablet products are mostly based on trichloroisocyanuric acid, while granular products are based on sodium dichloroisocyanurate or calcium hypochlorite; this is a common tendency, not a rule. Granular products may dissolve quickly or slowly. For tablets too, the active ingredient, concentration and instructions for use must be checked. Comparing products only by the word chlorine on the packaging is therefore not enough.
The right choice depends on current test results, the treatment objective and the dosing equipment in use. A product chosen for routine maintenance is not assumed to be used in the same quantity as a corrective treatment. When switching between pool chemicals, it is also important that residues of the previous product do not mix with the new one.

Granular form on its own does not make a product suitable for rapid dissolution or shock treatment. The product label states for what purpose and how it is to be used. If two granular products have different compositions, the same quantity in grams or the same preparation method should not be used.
Steps such as pre-dissolving in water, direct application or use in specific equipment depend on the product instructions. The same bucket preparation method is not prescribed for every product. Different chlorine products, or chlorine and acid, are never mixed in the same container: contact between a chlorine product and acid can release toxic chlorine gas, and contact between isocyanurate-based products and calcium hypochlorite can create a fire risk.
Tablets must be used through a suitable dosing device or a permitted application route.
Leaving a tablet directly on the pool finish or placing it in an unsuitable chamber is not considered a correct method. The instructions for the existing equipment and the product label must be read together.
For long-term use, monitoring of pH and, depending on the product used, of stabiliser is planned alongside free chlorine. The fact that a tablet dissolves slowly does not mean the same quantity can be used for weeks without testing.
Price is not assessed per kilogram alone.
The active ingredient content, application needs, equipment compatibility and monitoring costs affect the overall decision. The label, the safety data sheet and the appropriate storage conditions are reviewed before purchase.
