Pool Lighting Systems
Pool Lighting Transformer, Step-down Transformer.
The Pool Lighting Transformer is a pool transformer that reduces the 230 V AC mains voltage to the 12 V AC on which underwater lamps run. Çilek Havuz supplies Transformer through quotes and as part of its projects. There are four power options: 100 VA, 130 VA, 300 VA and 600 VA. The housing has IP20 protection and is mounted in a dry panel. The cable between the transformer and the lamp can be at most 40 m.

Users and applications
Every pool fitted with underwater lamps that run on 12 V AC has a lighting transformer. In a new pool, the transformer is chosen once the model and number of lamps are known. In a pool converted from halogen to LED, the existing transformer can be kept or replaced with a smaller model. The model is selected by the total apparent power (VA) of the connected lamps.
- 100 VA for lines with up to five 20 VA white LED lamps
- 130 VA for small lines combining white and RGB LED lamps
- 300 VA and 600 VA for lines with many lamps or with Flexi Connect bulbs
- 300 VA per lamp in existing pools with 300 W halogen lamps
// 03 · Installation and compatibility
Installation and compatible equipment
The transformer is screwed inside an enclosed plant room or electrical panel protected from splashing; the IP20 housing is not placed in an area exposed to moisture. The 230 V AC input is fed from the lighting circuit breaker in the panel. The 12 V AC output goes to the lamps via the Pool Lighting Junction Box. The lamp cable is extended up to 40 m with the Pool Lighting Cable and Connection Kit.
- The VA values of the lamps to be connected are added up, and the transformer is chosen from this total.
- The transformer is screwed into the dry panel by its mounting feet.
- The lighting circuit in the panel is isolated and the 230 V AC input is connected.
- The 12 V AC output is run to the junction box and from there to the lamps.
- The cable between the transformer and the furthest lamp is checked to confirm it does not exceed 40 m.
// 04 · Maintenance
Maintenance checkpoints
The transformer has no consumable parts to replace. The points checked are temperature, dust and terminal connections. The ventilation slots are kept clear, and nothing is placed on top of the housing. When the number of lamps increases, the transformer rating is recalculated. If the lamps do not light, the 12 V AC output is measured first, then the junction box is checked.
- The ventilation slots are cleared of dust.
- The tightness of the input and output terminals is checked.
- The inside of the panel is checked for moisture or traces of water.
- When a new lamp is added, the VA total is compared with the transformer rating.

+90 216 475 39 37The rating of a pool transformer is chosen to be equal to or greater than the total VA of the lamps to be connected. A white LumiPlus Essential PAR56 lamp draws 20 VA, the RGB model 29 VA. Four white lamps come to 80 VA, so a 100 VA transformer is sufficient. Two 300 W halogen lamps come to approximately 600 VA, so a 600 VA transformer is chosen.
Çilek Havuz Corporate
The number of lamps that can be connected to a transformer is set by its VA rating. The total VA of the lamps does not exceed this value. LumiPlus Flexi Connect Bulb models draw between 38 VA and 72 VA, so fewer of them are connected to the same transformer. In a pool with many lamps, the 300 VA or 600 VA model is chosen, or the lamps are split between two transformers.
Çilek Havuz Corporate
A pool transformer is installed inside a dry, enclosed plant room or electrical panel. The housing has IP20 protection; it is not protected against water or splashing. It is not placed at the poolside, in a manhole or anywhere exposed to rain. The cable length between the transformer and the furthest lamp can be at most 40 m.
Çilek Havuz Corporate
When converting from halogen to LED, the transformer does not need replacing for voltage reasons. Both the Halogen PAR56 lamp and the LED lamp run on 12 V AC. The difference is in the load: a 300 W halogen lamp draws approximately 300 VA, while the LumiPlus Essential PAR56 white model draws 20 VA. The output of the existing transformer is measured and its housing and terminals are checked.
Çilek Havuz Corporate
The difference between the two models is the load they carry; input, output and protection class are the same. The 100 VA model carries five white LumiPlus Essential PAR56 lamps (5 × 20 VA). The 130 VA model covers the load created when one RGB lamp (29 VA) is added to four white lamps. For a larger load, the 300 VA model is chosen.
Çilek Havuz Corporate
The transformer powers the lamps, while the LumiPlus Connect Pool Lighting Control Unit manages them. The transformer reduces 230 V AC to 12 V AC and is needed for every 12 V AC pool lamp. The control unit works only with compatible Connect and RGB lamps. Colour, brightness and scheduling are set from the phone app.
Çilek Havuz Corporate
The pool lighting transformer complies with the UNE-EN-61558-2-6 standard. All four models reduce the 230 V AC input to a 12 V AC output and have IP20 protection. The models are rated at 100 VA, 130 VA, 300 VA and 600 VA. The cable between the transformer and the lamp can be at most 40 m.
