Six figures that shape a pool or spa in Qatar
Climate averages and typical operating ranges we check first on a villa or hotel brief. None of them is a price.
Lusail, July high
42°C
How hot does it get in Lusail in summer?
The July average high is about 42 °C, so the pool, the plant room and the site hours are all planned around the heat.
Request a quotation
Outdoor pool, August
32+°C
How warm does an outdoor pool get in a Qatari summer?
Left without cooling, the water passes 32 °C and stops feeling fresh. A chiller or reversible heat pump brings it back down.
Request a quotation
Rain
Very little
How much rain falls in Qatar?
Very little, mostly in winter, so evaporation far outweighs rain. Shade and a night cover save water, chemicals and cooling energy.
Request a quotation
Hammam hot room
35-45°C
How hot is the hot room of a Turkish hammam?
Usually 35 to 45 °C with high humidity, gentler than a sauna. The heated marble platform keeps the warmth even.
Request a quotation
Steam room humidity
100%
How humid is a steam room?
Close to saturation. Next to a chilled corridor it needs a vapour barrier, a sealed door and its own extract to outside.

Spa suites
2suites
Can a villa or hotel spa have separate men's and women's areas?
Yes. Two suites with their own entrances usually share one plant room, which keeps pipe runs short in the building.

Pool contractor and spa planning for Qatar's climate
Qatar's heat turns the usual pool brief upside down. These six topics decide the scope, the programme and the running cost.
Written by Ali SAVAŞ
Pool cooling in summer
In July the air in Doha and Lusail averages 41-42 °C, and an outdoor pool left alone passes 32 °C.
- A chiller or a reversible heat pump brings the water back to a fresh level, and in winter the same unit can warm it slightly.
- Shade structures and a night cover cut evaporation, the cooling load and the chemical demand together.
- The plant is sized from the water surface, the hours of sun it gets and the number of swimmers.

Rooftop and overflow pools
Many villas and hotel towers in Qatar put the pool on a roof or a podium deck, where weight and waterproofing lead the design.
- The building's structural engineer confirms the load of water, finishes and people before the pool depth is fixed.
- An overflow edge keeps the surface level with the deck and skims it all day, which helps with dust and heat.
- The balance tank is sized from bather load, channel volume and evaporation, not from pool volume alone.
- A skimmer pool is simpler and costs less where the view is not the point.

Hammam, steam room or sauna
Most clients in Qatar choose a Turkish hammam or a steam room, and a sauna is usually a second room if it is wanted at all.
- A hammam brings the heated marble platform, carved basins and a washing ritual, so it needs more floor and more stonework.
- A steam room fits a smaller footprint inside a villa suite.
- In buildings cooled hard, every hot room needs its own insulation, vapour barrier, sealed door and extract to outside.

Contracting through a local partner
A foreign manufacturer does not sign the works contract itself in Qatar.
- The job sits under a registered local company or the project's main contractor, and our design, supply and installation scope is written into that contract.
- Equipment should meet the shared Gulf conformity rules, with certificates and labelling, and electrical items carry more requirements than mechanical ones.
- Import and installation appear as separate lines, and the rules are checked again for every quotation.

Shipping and summer site hours
Containers land at Hamad Port packed in the order of installation, and small urgent parts can follow by air freight.
- Rules on midday outdoor work in summer shape the programme.
- Pool shells and external paving are planned around them, while indoor plant and marble fill the hottest hours.
- Our own crew installs the pool plant, the hammam stonework and the steam equipment, and the partner handles civil works and any licensed trade.

Running and service
A cooled pool in August and a steam room running all day both load the plant steadily.
- At handover we train the operator's staff on water balance, chiller settings and descaling the generator.
- Wear parts are listed so a stock can be kept in Doha.
- Remote support covers routine settings, and site visits are fixed in the service agreement.

Pool, hammam and spa in Qatar: which option to choose
For most Qatari villas and hotels we recommend an overflow pool with a chiller, salt or chlorine dosing chosen by the operator, and a sloped-ceiling hammam. The table shows when the other option is better.
| Decision | Option 1 | Option 2 | Which, and when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pool edge | Overflow with balance tank | Skimmer | Overflow for hotel terraces and villa decks that show the water; skimmer for simple family pools |
| Disinfection | Salt electrolysis | Liquid chlorine | Salt for steady dosing and softer water; chlorine where corrosion of nearby metal is a concern |
| Hammam heating | Hot-water circuit | Electric mat | Hot water in hotels with plant; electric in a villa suite |
| Ceiling | Dome | Sloped ceiling | Dome in a tall lobby-style hall; slope where the void is low |
| Shade and cover | Fixed shade plus night cover | Open pool | Shade and cover on nearly every project to cut evaporation; open only where the client insists |

// 07 · Common mistakes
Mistakes we see on hot-climate pools and spas
Most failures come from designing a Gulf project as if it were a European one. These are the five we meet most.

No shading over the pool
A villa pool is built in full sun. Water passes 32 °C, evaporation is heavy and algae gets a foothold. Chemicals rise and swimmers avoid the pool for weeks. Plan shade, a cover and a chiller in the first drawings, not after handover.
Plant room in the sun
The pump room is put where space is left over, often on a sunlit wall. Pumps overheat, electronics fail and access is cramped. Give it shade or air-conditioning, a drain and a door wide enough to lift out the largest pump.
Balance tank too small
A tank sized on the pool volume alone overflows when the pool is full of swimmers and runs dry when the deck is hot. Pumps then draw air and cavitate. Size it from bather load, channel volume and evaporation.
Hammam beside chilled air
A steam room is built against an air-conditioned corridor without a vapour barrier. The cold wall sweats, paint blisters and the smell of damp reaches the lobby. It needs sealed insulation, a sealed door and its own extract.
Dosing by hand in strong sun
Chlorine is added by hand on a fixed schedule. Sun burns it off in hours, levels swing, and either the water turns green or guests get irritated eyes. Automatic dosing controlled by readings holds a steady level.
// 08 · Cost
What affects the cost of a villa pool or hotel spa in Qatar
Cost follows pool size, cooling load and the building's type, not only the water surface. We price from your plans, so no figures are shown here.
| Factor | What it changes |
|---|---|
| Pool volume and edge type | A larger pool needs bigger pumps and a bigger balance tank. Overflow edges need extra concrete detail, which adds to the build. |
| Cooling load | The more sun a pool sees, the larger the chiller or heat pump. Shade and a night cover reduce the load and the running bill. |
| Groundwater and soil | Near the coast, saline high water calls for special concrete, waterproofing and stainless grades. A soil test guides the shell design. |
| Hammam and steam scope | Marble grade, generator size and separate areas add to the hammam. Steam rooms need their own insulation and extract routes. |
| Summer site restrictions | Reduced outdoor hours stretch the programme, so external work is planned in cooler months. This affects crew scheduling and cost. |
| Partner and contractor scope | The wider the civil and licensed work held by the partner, the fewer lines we carry. The split is written into the contract. |

Outdoor work is limited in the hottest part of the day, so external works are planned around those hours and indoor work fills the gaps.

The cost of a villa pool in Doha or Lusail depends on pool size, edge type, cooling, groundwater and the scope of the local contractor. We give a figure only after seeing plans, and every line is itemised.
Çilek Havuz Technical Team
An overflow pool looks better and skims the surface constantly, but costs more to build. A skimmer pool is simpler. We compare the two for your deck before design is fixed.
Çilek Havuz Technical Team
Yes, once the building's structural engineer has confirmed the load. We then design the shell, waterproofing, overflow channel and balance tank to that limit and coordinate the works with the main contractor.
