Six figures behind a hammam in the Kingdom
Climate averages and typical room conditions we check before drawing a hammam in Riyadh, Jeddah or the Eastern Province.
Riyadh, July high
43°C
How hot is Riyadh in summer?
The July average high is about 43 °C. Villas are cooled hard, so the hammam needs its own insulated envelope.
Request a quotation
Jeddah, July high
38°C
Why does a hammam in Jeddah need more ventilation?
Jeddah is humid as well as hot. Extract fans are sized to clear moist air without drawing it through the rest of the villa.

Hammam hot room
35-45°C
What temperature does a Turkish hammam run at?
Most hammams run at 35 to 45 °C with high humidity. The heated marble platform gives an even, gentle warmth.

Steam room
100%
What humidity does a steam room reach?
Near saturation. Behind a cold, air-conditioned wall that moisture condenses unless a continuous vapour barrier stops it.

Sauna
80-100°C
How does a sauna compare with a steam room?
A sauna is dry heat at 80 to 100 °C. In the Gulf it is usually a second room beside the steam room, on the same plant.

How are men's and women's areas usually planned?
Two suites with their own entrances share one plant room. Smaller villas use one suite with a private entrance.

Hammam construction in Saudi Arabia: what decides the project
Heat, humidity, privacy and paperwork shape a Turkish hammam in the Kingdom more than the choice of marble.
Written by Ali SAVAŞ
Heat and humidity
Riyadh is hot and dry, with July highs around 43 °C and very little rain, so the hammam sits inside a building that is already air-conditioned hard.
- That means the steam room needs its own insulated envelope and vapour barrier, or the cold wall behind it will sweat.
- Jeddah and the Eastern Province are humid as well as hot, and extract ventilation must be sized to clear moist air without pulling it through the rest of the villa.
- On the Red Sea coast, salt air and saline groundwater call for stainless fixings of the right grade and protected concrete.

Separate men's and women's areas
Many Saudi villas and most hotel spas need men and women to use the hammam apart.
- The usual answer is two suites sharing one plant room, which saves space on equipment and keeps pipe runs short.
- Each suite gets its own entrance, changing area and rest room, with sight lines closed from corridors and the garden.
- Smaller villas often choose one suite with a private entrance and time slots instead.
- We fix the layout with you before any stone is cut.

Hammam, steam room or sauna
In a hot climate most people prefer moist, gentle heat to dry heat, so a hammam or a steam room usually comes first.
- A Turkish hammam adds a heated marble platform, carved basins and a washing ritual, and suits a family villa or a hotel spa.
- A steam room is a sealed cabin with benches and needs less floor.
- A sauna can sit next to either and share the same plant room.

Conformity and local partner
Electrical items such as steam generators, control panels, pumps and lighting need conformity registration before shipping.
- Goods without the right certificates can be held or returned at customs, so this step starts early and runs alongside the design.
- Site work is contracted through a registered local company or the main contractor.
- Requirements are checked again for every quotation.

Shipping and installation crew
Marble, ceramics, glass and plant leave Turkey by container for Jeddah or Dammam, chosen by the site's location.
- Heavy stone travels in numbered, insured timber crates.
- Our installation team travels for each phase: pipework, waterproofing, marble, generator and commissioning.
- A local partner can handle civil works, the electrical supply and any job needing a Saudi licence.

Service and maintenance
In a hotel the steam room may run from morning to late evening, so scale and worn sensors cause most breakdowns.
- At handover we train the operator's technicians on descaling, marble care and the controller, and supply a wear-parts list.
- Routine support is remote; site visits are set in the service agreement.

Compare
Turkish hammam for a Saudi villa or hotel: which option suits
For most Saudi projects we recommend pale dense marble, a hot-water or electric circuit matched to the building, and a sloped ceiling. The table shows when the alternative is better.
| Decision | Option 1 | Option 2 | Which, and when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marble | Dense white, few pores | Veined or coloured | White on the platform and wet zone; veined on dry feature walls |
| Heating | Hot-water circuit | Electric mat | Hot water where a hotel plant exists; electric for a single villa suite |
| Ceiling | Dome | Sloped ceiling | Dome in a tall hotel hall; slope where the ceiling void is low |
| Steam source | Heated platform plus generator | Generator only | Platform softens the steam in busy hotels; generator alone suits a small private room |
| Kurna | Single marble block | Ready-made basin | Single block for long-term hotel use; ready-made only where speed matters most |

Riyadh, Jeddah, the east and the coast
Riyadh, Jeddah and the Gulf coast each ask for a different steam room, mostly because of humidity and air-conditioning.

// 08 · Common mistakes
Mistakes we see in steam rooms across the Gulf
Most failures start with a decision that looked economical and was hidden behind tile. These are the five we meet most.

Insulating only the inside face
Steam reaches the cold wall behind the air-conditioned corridor, condenses and soaks the insulation. Within a couple of years the plaster stains and a musty smell appears. The fix is a continuous vapour barrier on the warm side and insulation that stays dry, planned before the walls are closed.
Generator sized for the floor area
A generator chosen from floor area alone struggles once marble and glass soak up heat. The room never reaches temperature and the unit runs flat out until it fails. It should be sized from volume, heat loss and the number of users.
Wrong grade of stainless on the coast
Ordinary stainless fittings pit within a season near the Red Sea or the Gulf, and rust bleeds into the marble joints. Specify the correct marine grade from the start.
Flat floor, no falls
A floor laid dead flat leaves puddles at the platform, and grout darkens within months. Regrading later means lifting all the marble. The falls belong in the screed and the drain sits where water gathers.
Ordinary door on the steam room
A standard door swells, leaks steam into the corridor and damps the frame. The corridor air-conditioning then fights the moisture all day. Use a sealed frameless glass door with a threshold seal, designed with the extract.
// 09 · Cost
What drives the cost of hammam construction in Saudi Arabia
The price follows room volume, marble and how much of the building must be adapted, not floor area alone. We price from your plan and photos, so no figures are quoted here.
| Factor | What it changes |
|---|---|
| Separate men's and women's suites | Two suites share one plant room, but stone, benches and ventilation double up. Time slots in a single suite cost less to build and less to run. |
| Marble grade and thickness | Denser pale stone costs more than porous types, and thicker slabs add freight weight. They also keep their colour and hold heat longer in daily hotel use. |
| Generator and plant room | Larger volume means larger generators, tanks and pumps. A plant room that is easy to reach reduces long-term servicing effort. |
| Port and inland transport | Jeddah or Dammam is chosen by site location. Distance from the port to Riyadh or a remote resort adds haulage and handling. |
| Conformity documentation | Electrical items need registration before shipping, so the design must fix the components early. Late changes restart the paperwork. |
| Local contractor scope | Civil works and licensed electrical connection sit with the local partner. The wider their scope, the fewer lines our quotation carries. |

Yes. We can deliver the hammam and steam rooms as a complete package under the main contractor, from shop drawings to commissioning.
Çilek Havuz Technical Team
The cost of a Turkish hammam in Saudi Arabia depends on room size, marble and generator capacity. The transport route and the scope left to the local partner also affect it. We give a figure only after seeing your plan, and the quotation itemises every line.
Çilek Havuz Technical Team
Often yes. What matters is a route for the extract to outside, a drain with enough fall, a floor that takes the weight of marble and power for the generator. A site survey confirms this before the design is fixed.
Çilek Havuz Technical Team
Not yet. We work in the Kingdom as a manufacturer and installer shipping from Turkey, and the hammams shown on this page were delivered in Turkey by the same workshop and crew.
