Users and applications
Etna 40 kW is intended for villa owners who have a combi boiler or boiler at home and want to heat the pool from this source. If the heat source has sufficient output, a separate heat pump or electric heater is not needed. The heat exchanger is used in projects where the boiler line can reach the pool plant room. For a larger pool, or if a set with a pump is wanted, the sizes of the ETNA family are chosen.

Installation and compatible equipment
The heat exchanger is installed between two circuits. The hot water of the combi boiler or boiler is connected to the primary circuit, and the pool line after the filter to the secondary circuit. The chlorine dosing or salt chlorinator unit stays after the heat exchanger. The need for a thermostat, valve and primary pump is determined before installation. If the combi boiler's own pump is not enough to feed the primary line, a separate pump is added.

- The primary circuit is connected to the boiler line, the secondary circuit to the line after the filter.

Maintenance checkpoints
Maintenance on a heat exchanger means keeping the heat transfer surfaces clean. The pH and hardness of the pool water are kept in balance and the filter is backwashed on time, so scale and dirt do not build up on the surfaces. When preparing for winter and during long shutdowns, the secondary circuit is drained. The primary and secondary connections are checked for leaks at the start of each season.

No pool volume value is given for Etna 40 kW. The heat exchanger works in this class when the boiler can allocate 40 kW to the pool. The final choice is made according to a heat calculation based on the pool dimensions, location and boiler details.

AstralPool ETNA Heat Exchanger offers 16 sizes from ETNA-15 to ETNA-580 in Bare, Equipped and Complete levels. If the pool is large, or a set including the primary pump is wanted, the choice is made from the ETNA family.

A pool heat exchanger is fed by a primary line branching from the heating outlet of the combi boiler. The return water goes back to the combi boiler. The pool water passes through the heat exchanger in a separate secondary circuit after the filter. A thermostat and valve in between open the primary flow when the pool calls for heat. It is checked beforehand whether the combi boiler can supply the home and the pool together.

Part of the combi boiler output goes to home heating and domestic hot water. The output left for the pool limits the heat the heat exchanger can transfer. A heat exchanger in the 40 kW class works at full capacity only when the boiler can allocate this output to the pool. With an undersized combi boiler, the heat-up time is longer; in this case a boiler or a heat pump is considered.

If there is a boiler or combi boiler with sufficient output at home, a heat exchanger is chosen. It does not require a separate heat generator. If there is no heat source, or the boiler is insufficient, a heat pump is chosen; a heat pump takes heat from the outdoor air and runs on electricity. A pool heat exchanger is connected before the chlorine dosing or salt chlorinator unit. The line order is the filter, the heat exchanger and then the disinfection unit. In this way, highly chlorinated water does not reach the heat exchanger surfaces directly. The same order applies to heat pumps and electric heaters. A by-pass line is installed around the heat exchanger.

If the combi boiler's own pump is enough to feed the primary line, a separate pump is not needed. If not, a separate pump is added to the primary circuit. The need for a thermostat, valve and primary pump is determined before installation.
