Zodiac MS Sand Filter, Sand Filter with Six-Way Valve.
The Zodiac MS Sand Filter is a sand filter supplied with a six-way valve that cleans pool water by passing it through a bed of glass media or sand. Çilek Havuz supplies MS through quotes and as part of its projects. Its five models range from Ø475-950 mm body diameter and 8-33 m³/h flow. The body is fibreglass-reinforced polyester. The MS 470, MS 530 and MS 650 use a 1½" threaded connection, the MS 800 and MS 950 a 2" threaded connection.

Users and applications
Zodiac MS is chosen for a filtration line in which pool water is filtered through a bed of glass media or sand. The model is set by the flow of the pump: the MS 470 delivers 8 m³/h and the MS 950 33 m³/h. The six-hour filtration capacity of the five models is between 48 and 200 m³. As the valve comes in the package, no separate valve needs to be chosen.

Installation and compatible equipment
Zodiac MS is fitted between the pump and the pool return. The package includes the six-way valve, a pressure gauge and air bleed kit, a nut and bolt kit and a media filling cover. The body is filled with glass media or sand. Operating pressure depends on the pump type: 0.2-0.8 bar with a variable speed pump and 0.4-1.4 bar with a single speed pump.
- The filter is placed on a level surface on its base ring.
- The six-way valve and pressure gauge kit are mounted on the body with the parts in the package.
- The glass media or sand filling is placed in the body.
- The pump line and pool return are connected to the threaded connections.

Maintenance checkpoints
Maintaining the MS filter means monitoring the pressure gauge reading and using the valve positions correctly. When pressure rises, the valve is set to the backwash position, followed by a rinse. The drain outlets at the bottom of the body are for draining water and media. The glass media is renewed when it loses its filtering capacity, and the connections are checked for leaks.
- The pressure gauge is monitored; a rise in pressure shows that a backwash is needed.
- The valve position is changed while the pump is switched off.
- The drain connections are checked to make sure they are closed and leak-tight.
- The glass media is renewed when filtration declines.

The total quantity of glass media is between 75 and 420 kg depending on the model. The MS 470 takes 75, the MS 530 90, the MS 650 135, the MS 800 270 and the MS 950 420 kg. The media is supplied in 1.0/3.0 and 0.7/1.3 mm bags; the MS 470 uses 1 + 4 bags and the MS 950 3 + 25 bags. Crystal Clear is available under the Active Glass Media product.

Operating pressure is in the range of 0.2-0.8 bar with a variable speed pump and 0.4-1.4 bar with a single speed pump. The maximum pressure is 2.5 bar. The pump is chosen by the flow of the model, between 8 and 33 m³/h, and its flow should not exceed the flow of the chosen model. The pressure gauge is on the top lid and shows the pressure.

The valve is included in the package; it is a six-way, side-mounted type. Its positions are filtration, backwash, rinse, drain, circulation and closed. The package also contains a pressure gauge and air bleed kit, a nut and bolt kit and a media filling cover. No separate Multiport Valve needs to be purchased.

The difference lies in body diameter, flow and weight. The MS 470 has a Ø475 mm diameter, 8 m³/h flow and 0.16 m² filtration area; its total weight is 85 kg. The MS 950 has Ø950 mm, 33 m³/h and 0.66 m², and weighs 460 kg. The MS 470 has a 1½" and the MS 950 a 2" threaded connection.

MS filters through a glass media bed and is backwashed with a valve; CS filters with a cartridge. MS works at 8-33 m³/h with 0.16-0.66 m² of area. CS has 22.7 and 28.4 m³/h flow and 9.3 and 14 m² of cartridge area. On MS, the valve is included in the package.

The drain is a 3/8" water outlet; the MS 530 and larger models also have a 2½" media drain. The MS 470 has no media drain. Total weight is 85, 100, 160, 305 and 460 kg depending on the model. The body is fibreglass-reinforced polyester, and the floor is prepared for this weight.
