The diameter is chosen according to the operating flow rate of the pump. In the Aster sand filter, Ø350 mm gives 5, Ø450 mm 8, Ø600 mm 14, Ø750 mm 21 and Ø900 mm 30 m³/h. A 48 m³ pool needs 8 m³/h for a 6 hour turnover; Ø450 mm meets this flow at the upper velocity limit, Ø600 mm at a lower velocity.

Backwashing is done when the pressure on the pressure gauge exceeds the threshold given by the manufacturer. Because the interval depends on the bathing load, it is not tied to a fixed schedule. If the pressure does not return to the clean value after backwashing and the water does not clear even though the chemical values are correct, it is time to consider replacing the media.

Yes, glass filter media is filled into the same pressure vessel in place of sand. Because glass is lighter than sand, the same bed volume is filled with fewer kilograms. In the filters the sand quantity is between 60 and 550 kg and the class 1 glass media quantity between 50 and 375 kg; the correct quantity is read from the filling table of the model.

No, a cartridge filter is not backwashed; the cartridge is taken out and rinsed. The pleated cartridge uses a large area at a low velocity: on the ClariSave 10 model the area is 7.8 m², the flow rate 10.1 m³/h and the velocity about 1.3 m³/h·m². The filtration fineness of the nanofiber cartridge in the product data is 5-8 microns.

Commercial pools have more bathers and a larger volume, so the flow rate and filter area are chosen much higher than for residential pools. That is why there is a separate commercial series: the Vesubio commercial sand filter ranges from Ø450 mm at 8 m³/h to Ø1200 mm at 56 m³/h, while Praga, Oslo, Olot, Rodas and Berlin & Ivory are wound filters.
