Pool Water Testers, definition and selection criteria
A pool water tester is a measuring instrument that puts a number on the disinfectant level and water balance of pool water; this page covers the whole group, from test strips and kits to digital meters, and from photometers to smart sensors placed in the water. Test strips and liquid reagent kits measure free chlorine, pH, total alkalinity, total hardness, cyanuric acid and salt. The SD Series and SD Series 2025 portable meters read pH, ORP, conductivity, TDS and salt digitally together with temperature and come with an IP67 housing. The Scuba3s and MD Series photometers measure parameters such as chlorine, pH, cyanuric acid, alkalinity and calcium hardness in a single instrument. Blue Connect Gold, Aqua Connect and Blue Connect GO send temperature, pH and ORP readings to an app.

In the SD Series 2025, the SD10 and SD40 models read 0.00 to 14.00 pH, and in the SD Series, SD 50 reads the 0-14 pH range. The pH range is 6.5 to 8.4 on the MD Series photometer and 6.8 to 8.2 on the chlorine and pH test kits.

The MD Series photometer is offered in 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 parameter models. The 6 parameter model reads chlorine, pH, cyanuric acid, alkalinity, calcium hardness and bromine. Scuba3s measures chlorine, bromine, pH, alkalinity-M, calcium hardness, cyanuric acid, active oxygen, copper and phosphate.

Salt measuring range in a saltwater pool
The salt test strip shows the 1 to 7 g/l range and is intended for pools with salt electrolysis units. For digital measurement, SD30 reads salt from 0.01 to 10 g/l, SD40 from 0.001 to 10 g/l, and SD 90 values below 20.00 ppt.

Power source of the digital instruments
The SD Series 2025 runs for more than 2000 hours on 4 x 1.5 V AAA batteries. The SD Series uses 2 x AAA batteries with a battery life of more than 25 hours. Scuba3s takes 5000 readings on 2 x AA batteries, and Blue Connect Gold uses a battery charged via USB-C.

+90 216 475 39 37Test strips and kits show several parameters in a single test; the 7-parameter test strip measures seven values at once. Digital instruments give the value as a number on the display; the SD Series 2025 has a pH resolution of 0.01, and the SD Series stores 25 data sets permanently. We recommend a digital instrument for pools where readings need to be numeric and recorded, and a test kit for checking several parameters together.

Total and calcium hardness, cyanuric acid, salt, conductivity, TDS and temperature are also measured. Scuba3s also reads active oxygen, copper and phosphate. The salt test strip gives a reading in the 1 to 7 g/l range and is compatible with pools that have salt electrolysis units. For digital measurement, SD30 and SD40 from the SD Series 2025 and SD 90 from the SD Series are used. Among the smart sensors, Blue Connect Gold and Aqua Connect measure salinity.

Scuba3s is for residential pools and spas; it sends results to Pool-App via NFC and stores 100 data sets. The MD Series is for public pools, has an IP68 housing and withstands immersion at a depth of 0.1 m for 1 hour. The MD110 models also use a Bluetooth connection.

Smart sensors measure temperature, pH and ORP and send the results to an app. Blue Connect Gold has a gold sensor, also measures salinity and uses Bluetooth and Wi-Fi; Aqua Connect is fitted on the pipe and runs on mains power. Blue Connect GO has a platinum sensor, uses Bluetooth and Sigfox and is not compatible with salt chlorination.

The SD Series consists of the SD 50 pH, SD 60 ORP and SD 90 salt models, runs on 2 x AAA batteries and stores 25 data sets permanently. The SD Series 2025 includes the SD10, SD20, SD30 and SD40 models and uses 4 x 1.5 V AAA batteries and a 3-colour display. Conductivity and TDS measurement are available only in the 2025 series; in both series the housing has IP67 protection.
