Pool Heat Pump Models, definition and selection criteria
A pool heat pump is an electrical unit that collects heat from the outdoor air through a refrigerant circuit and transfers it to the pool water passing through the filter line. The heat delivered to the water in relation to the electricity drawn is expressed by the COP value. This page covers two groups: for residential pools, the ON-OFF Z400iQ and the full inverter Z550iQ, Z350iQ, ProElyo Touch and Eco Elyo series, which adjust their output to demand; for hotels, sports facilities and public pools, the Excellium, Proheat II Indoor and Proheat II Standard/Chiller commercial heat pumps.

Heat pump output for a residential pool
At 26°C air, the maximum heating output is 9.8 to 22 kW for Z400iQ, 11 to 16 kW for Z350iQ, 13 to 31 kW for Eco Elyo and 13.5 to 35 kW for ProElyo Touch; Z550iQ reaches up to 20 kW. Output is chosen by pool volume, cover use and the months to be heated; in cooler regions the value at 15°C air is used.

Reading heat pump efficiency
COP shows the heat delivered to the water for every 1 kW of electricity drawn. On the ON-OFF Z400iQ the COP is between 5.2 and 5.9; on full inverter models at low output it rises to 12 on Z550iQ, 16 on ProElyo Touch and 16.4 on Eco Elyo. High COP values are reached when the compressor runs at low output.

Lowest operating air temperature
ProElyo Touch heats down to -20°C outdoor air, Z550iQ and Excellium to -15°C, Z400iQ to -12°C, Z350iQ to -7°C and Eco Elyo to -5°C. For Proheat II Indoor and Proheat II Standard/Chiller the minimum operating air temperature is 0°C. For a pool heated all year, a model with a low limit is chosen.

Output range for commercial pools
Excellium delivers 45 to 185 kW of heating output at 28°C air, Proheat II Indoor 43.6 to 125.5 kW at 25°C air, and Proheat II Standard 36.2 to 125.5 kW. All of these models have a three-phase supply; Excellium runs on 380-415 V and the Proheat II families on 400 V.

+90 216 475 39 37A pool heat pump collects heat from the outdoor air in a refrigerant circuit and transfers it to the pool water passing through the filter line. It does not produce heat by burning fuel but moves it from the air, so it delivers more heat to the water than the electricity it draws. This ratio is expressed by the COP value and falls as the outdoor air gets colder.

In an ON-OFF unit the compressor runs at a fixed speed and stops when the set temperature is reached. Z400iQ is of this type and its COP is between 5.2 and 5.9. A full inverter unit adjusts its output to the needs of the water; Z550iQ, Z350iQ, ProElyo Touch and Eco Elyo are of this type. On Z550iQ, ProElyo Touch and Eco Elyo the COP rises above 10 at low output.

Output is chosen by pool volume, cover use, the local climate and the months to be heated. For residential models the maximum output at 26°C air is between 9.8 kW and 35 kW. For a unit used in cooler months, the output at 15°C air is checked; for ProElyo Touch this value is between 9 and 25 kW. We carry out the calculation together with the pool dimensions and location.

The required supply depends on the model. All Z350iQ models are 220-240 V single-phase; the Z400iQ, Z550iQ, ProElyo Touch and Eco Elyo series include both single-phase and 380-400 V three-phase models. Excellium, Proheat II Indoor and Proheat II Standard/Chiller have a three-phase supply only.

This depends on the minimum operating air temperature of the model. ProElyo Touch heats down to -20°C outdoor air, Z550iQ to -15°C and Z400iQ to -12°C. With limits of -7°C and -5°C, Z350iQ and Eco Elyo are chosen mainly to extend the season in spring and autumn.

Some commercial models also provide cooling. At 30°C air, Excellium delivers 23 to 92 kW of cooling output and Proheat II Chiller 42.3 to 140 kW. Proheat II Standard and Proheat II Indoor provide heating only; for a facility that needs cooling we recommend Excellium or the Chiller version.
