Pool Skimmers and Pool Fittings, definition and selection criteria
A pool skimmer is the body that collects water from the pool surface together with floating debris and sends it to the filtration line; the main drain draws from the pool floor, and the return inlet sends filtered water back to the pool. Together these three parts set up the circulation of the pool. The skimmers on this page have ABS and AISI-316L stainless steel bodies: the 17.5 litre Norm ABS skimmer, the wide-mouth stainless skimmer with 500 and 650 mm mouths, the SLIM high-level skimmer where the water level can vary by ±4 cm, and the skimmer that holds two cartridges in the same body. Selection starts with the pool construction; there are separate models for concrete, liner and prefabricated pools.

Selection
The number of skimmers is set by the water surface area and the flow rate of the filtration line. In overflow pools, where the waterline rises to the edge, an overflow channel is used instead of skimmers; the difference between the two systems is explained in the guide article.

The wide-mouth stainless skimmer and the SLIM skimmer each come in two models with 500 and 650 mm mouths. On the SLIM the overall width is 560 and 710 mm and the height 344 mm.

Level variation in a high-level skimmer
In the SLIM high-level skimmer the water level can vary within a ±4 cm range. To keep the level constant, a level regulator is fitted in the compartment of the body; the regulator is not included with the product.

Filtration fineness of the cartridge skimmer
The skimmer with cartridge filters holds two cartridges, which filter to a fineness of 15 µm. The body is 17.5 litre UV-resistant ABS; the 16 m³/h model weighs 12 kg and the 20 m³/h model 13 kg.

The recommended flow rate for the Norm 17.5 L, wide-mouth and SLIM skimmers is 7.5 m³/h. We can determine the number together from the project dimensions.

The Norm 17.5 L and the skimmer with cartridge filters have ABS bodies; the Norm 17.5 L is available in white, beige, grey and anthracite. The wide-mouth and SLIM skimmers are AISI-316L stainless steel and come in models with 500 and 650 mm mouths. The choice depends on the pool construction, the lining and the required mouth width.

In a skimmer pool the water surface stays below the edge and surface water is collected through skimmer mouths in the wall. In an overflow pool the water flows over the edge into an overflow channel and no skimmer is used. The SLIM high-level skimmer brings the waterline closer to the edge. An anti-vortex grating is designed to prevent a vortex from forming; a flat grating is the classic flat cover. The Norm main drain is offered in separate groups for concrete and liner pools, in 10 models with both grating types. The recommended maximum suction velocity is 0.5 m/s, and the suction pipe diameter is set so that this velocity is not exceeded.

The choice depends on the pool type and the pipe diameter at the wall. Concrete pools use Ø50 solvent weld, 2 inch thread or Ø63/Ø50 solvent weld models. For liner pools there is a Ø50 solvent weld model, and for liner and prefabricated pools a model with 2 inch male thread and Ø50 female thread. The ABS return inlet is offered in 21 models in total.

On the Norm 17.5 L the body size, flow rate and connections are the same for both constructions; the difference is the flange. Straight-body models are used for concrete pools, flanged models for liner and prefabricated pools. The concrete and liner/prefabricated models of the skimmer with cartridge filters are offered under separate codes.
